Therapeutic area

Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s disease affects movement and can also cause cognitive, behavioral, sleep and autonomic symptoms.

Disease biology

Parkinson’s disease is characterized by progressive loss or dysfunction of dopamine-producing neurons, especially in the substantia nigra. Inflammation and insulin resistance are among the processes being studied for their potential roles in disease and symptom progression.

SUNRISE-PD

SUNRISE-PD (NE3107-PD-202) is a randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study evaluating bezisterim in people with early Parkinson’s disease who had not yet been prescribed levodopa or other dopamine receptor agonists.

Research objective

The study evaluates whether modulating inflammation and insulin resistance can affect movement symptoms and other clinical measures. Results are needed before conclusions can be drawn about benefit or risk.

Evidence and compliance note
