Therapeutic area

Alzheimer’s disease

A neurodegenerative disease involving progressive cognitive and functional decline. BioVie has investigated a non-amyloid-centered approach focused on inflammation and insulin signaling.

Disease burden

Alzheimer’s disease progressively affects memory, thinking and the ability to perform daily activities. Amyloid and tau are important features of the disease, while inflammation, vascular health, metabolism and other processes are also active areas of research.

BioVie’s research approach

BioVie has studied bezisterim in people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, testing the hypothesis that selective modulation of inflammation and improved insulin sensitivity in the brain could influence cognition, function, biomarkers or neurodegeneration.

How to interpret the evidence

BioVie’s Phase 3 Alzheimer’s study experienced protocol deviations and data-integrity limitations that materially affected interpretation. Exploratory analyses can generate hypotheses, but they do not establish efficacy and require confirmation.
